Duomo di Milano
The beautiful Duomo in Milan took 600 years to build! Started in the 1300s and completed in the early 1900s, you can see a variety of styles of the periods during which it was built.
When we first moved here it was free to go in, but after the World Expo in 2015 it started costing 3 euros to enter. Despite promising that that would change after the expo finished, the ticket requirement has never been dropped. Personally, my favorite part of visiting the Duomo is the baptistry around the back. In order to see it, you have to use the same entrance as the elevator and stairs to the roof, but if you are only going to the baptistry then you don’t have to pay. Unfortunately as the crowds of tourists continue to increase, you do typically now have to wait in the line of the people going to the roof. Depending on what you are into, I still think it’s worth it. Church history is important to me, and the history of baptism and baptistries is of particular significance to me, so I have found this to be the most moving aspect of visiting the Duomo.
